"Reign" season 3 will see the return of Amy Brenneman, who portrays Marie de Guise on the series. Marie, Queen Mary's mother, was last seen in season 2 when she revealed to her daughter that she's extremely ill and dying. At first, Marie seemed very cold towards her daughter during her visit. She seemed to be only concerned about Mary producing an heir.
When Mary finally opened up to her mom about being raped, Marie immediately asked if the rape resulted in a pregnancy. Of course, this angered Mary. She accused Marie of not being a mother at all and only using her as a weapon. Mary proclaimed, "I am more than a breeder." Once Mary learned of Marie's condition, though, her hostility towards her took a backseat, and she was concerned for her mother's well-being. She asked her mom to stay in France, but Marie insisted that she must return to Scotland to secure Mary's rule in the country.
Meanwhile, with Conde out of the picture, Mary and Francis got back together. It appeared that Mary was finally able to move past the horrible memories of her past and find it in her heart to forgive Francis. Unfortunately for the couple though, Francis may not have much time left.
"Young men, even young kings, do not live forever," executive producer Laurie McCarthy told Entertainment Weekly. "The real Francis died young, and while we take historical liberties, we adhere to the major signposts of Mary Queen of Scots' life. Moreover, the foreshadowing of Francis' eventual but untimely death has been woven into our story from the outset."
Some new characters fans can expect to see next season include a sexy and charming prince from Spain, a spy working for Queen Elizabeth and a fearless pirate. Also, a new girl named Constance will arrive at the French Court, and she'll catch the eye of Charles IX of France, King Francis' little brother.
