In March 2013, Fox renewed New Girl for a third season. It premiered on September 17, 2013. On May 13, 2013, Fox reported that an episode of this season will air after Super Bowl XLVIII. Damon Wayans, Jr. will return for at least four episodes this season. Eva Amurri will also return this season in her appearance since the season one episode "Bad in Bed". Angela Kinsey will guest star as Rose, a teacher at Jess' new job, who clashes with Jess over her personality and work ethic. Dreama Walker will also guest star as a teacher named Molly, who immediately takes a dislike to Jess.
Moments after they kissed after Cece's canceled wedding, Nick and Jess drive away, stammering about how much they like each other and both are "all in."
They pull over to celebrate. When that's over Nick fights the urge to buy her a lobster dinner and they realize they should just go home.
Back at the door to the loft, reality sinks in. They've been dating 30 minutes and they're already living together. They try to talk about how they need time alone but both get repeatedly texted by Schmidt, who usually texts Nick 40 times a day. He's freaking out about the Cece or Elizabeth question.
After a few more unanswered texts, Schmidt opens the front door and unloads on Nick, needing his help. Nick and Jess ask for a minute, let the door close, and run.
The next morning, after 25 unanswered texts, Schmidt announces to Winston that he needs a new best friend. Winston is transfixed by his puzzle, but agrees. Schmidt has some concerns about Winston's puzzling. He tends to get hyper-focused and hum a lot when he does them, also he ends up naked.
Schmidt debates what to do about the Cece-Elizabeth question, and finally decides he was with Elizabeth first, so Cece is out. Left alone with his puzzle, Winston unzips.
Schmidt goes to Cece to give her the bad news, but caves immediately when he sees how upset she is. Then he does the same with Elizabeth, telling them both he picked them.
Nick wakes up on the road to unfamiliar sights. They're in Mexico. They hang out on a beach.
Four days later, their clothes in tatters, Schmidt leaves Nick a voice mail, needing his help. Nick throws his phone in the water.
They've been camping out of the back of the Volvo, but Nick suggests they sneak into a nearby resort so he can keep being "Paradise Nick." They declare themselves "all in" again and go for it.
Back at the loft, Cece shows up and Winston, thinking Schmidt dumped her, offers a hug about Elizabeth. He's about to elaborate, when Schmidt gets out of shower and pantomimes him to stop.
So instead Schmidt says Winston seduced Elizabeth and then, when Cece's back is turned, silently pleads "best friends" to get Winston to go along with it. Schmidt piles on, saying Winston also asked for a pair of Cece's underwear. Winston fumbles around to sell the lie, and can only come up with saying he needed them to sew into his underpants.
Cece declares him a pervert, up-ends his puzzle and storms out.
Winston revokes his best friendship until Schmidt fixes it. Schmidt also points out some of his puzzle pieces are wedged in upside down and one is joined with an almond.
Lounging on beach chairs at the resort, finishing half-drunk drinks people left behind, Nick tries to talk a kid into giving him his plastic wristband when he sees security coming. Finally, he cheerily threatens to strangle the young kid.
Security shows up and asks for their bracelets and Nick runs into the ocean, declaring he's in international waters. That doesn't last long and they haul him off, saying they're taking him to jail.
Back at the loft, Winston puzzles. He's wearing his sweatshirt as pants. Schmidt insults his puzzling ability and they face off, pacing angrily around each other in circles. Jess busts in, demanding money and Nick's passport.
Back at the resort, Schmidt slips the hotel desk man cash as they worry that Nick has been made someone's prison bitch.
"That's for you to send your kids to college, or for you to send some fun up your nose," he says. The desk clerk sends them around to various people, all of whom take Schmidt's cash but provide no answers.
Finally, Jess sees the same security guard. Out of money, Schmidt offers Winston's shoes, but he says they're his favorite brown pair. They're green. Winston is color blind.
Jess offers her car and the guard takes her to Nick. He's fine. It's resort jail, they let him watch "Ugly Betty."
Nick doesn't like the idea of going back to the loft with Winston and Schmidt and is sure he and Jess won't work there.
Nick wants to stay in Mexico and threatens to shred his passport. Schmidt throws himself in front of the shredder, threatening to put his ear in.
Jess yells at everyone to stop and then explains to Nick that there's no them without Winston and Schmidt, they're a family. Nick relents and gives her a hug, but as he does, his passport falls in the shredder.
Somehow they get across the border.
Nick and Jess arrive back at the loft door looking like Tom Hanks at the end of Castaway.
They can't get in, Nick doesn't carry a key. Jess starts yelling at him asking why, and then they start making out.
Inside, Schmidt talks to Cece on the phone, but works Elizabeth on call waiting. Winston croons to his mishmash of a puzzle.
