The film begins out of a scene from future on, and then it rewinds to the beginning to tell what happens: A teenager named Griffin "The Brains" (Noah Crawford) and his friend Ben "The Best Friend/Sidekick" (Chris O'Neal) find a box with a baseball card in it worth up to 1.2 million dollars, but not knowing it, they sell it to P. Swindell "The Swindler" (Fred Ewanuick) for only $350. The next day they see a television broadcast of Swindell and he says how much the card is worth, leaving Griffin and Ben surprised and angry. When they try to get it back Swindell does not let them. Griffin then decides he wants to form a team to help steal the card back. They first want to get Savannah "The Actress" (Jennette McCurdy), then Darren "The Muscle" (Noah Munck), and lastly Amanda "The Gymnast" (Ariana Grande). Griffin's sister, Melissa (Ciara Bravo), attempts to be apart of the team but Griffin and Ben reject her. When the boys reach out to the three, they all reject multiple times but Ben says when they get the money he will pay each of them $25,000, and they all accept.
Their first attempt is to break into Swindell's store and get the card when he is away, and have Savannah and Darren distract before he gets back to the store. Griffin, Ben, and Amanda all try to look for the card but they cannot find it. Savannah and Darren's plans to not work and Darren returns to the group to tell them he is coming soon. They find the card at the last minute but before they get out, Swindell returns. They move around quietly and try to get out, and before they can, Griffin puts the card back. The security alarm somehow turns off so they are able to get out without it going off. When they get out they find out Melissa was the one who hacked into the system and turned the alarm off. She asks to be in the group and Griffin rejects again, but she says she'll tell their parents her brother's plans if he doesn't accept her in the team (revealing she's his sister). He then accepts her and she becomes known as "The Hacker". Right then Savannah returns and they come up with a new plan. They have Amanda dress up as a nerd and persuade another nerd to let her borrow a rare red-haired Captain Cybertor toy which is worth $80,000. Reviling a secret of Amanda's when the team and her lose connection.
Then with preparation it comes to the day they are going to pull of an ultimate plan, at a hotel where an auction of the baseball card will take place. They have Melissa hack into the hotel's system and put a fake name, a person that Savannah will be playing, at the top luxury suite, having Savannah playing Swindell's daughter and putting the cost of the suite on Swindell's card. There at the suite Melissa is able to hack into the security cameras and see what is happening. They then dress Griffin up as the host of the auction and have him and Swindell get back massages. Once done Savannah and Darren playing German kids get Swindell to buy the $80,000 robot toy for only $10. While Swindell is away out of his hotel room Amanda switches the red-haired Captain Cybertor with a blue haired one (which is common) and leaves, Swindell then gives a Russian man it for it's worth of $80,000. The Russian man does not look to see if it's the actual toy and they both leave. Ben, distracted, is noticed by Swindell who recognizes him, and Ben runs away and drops the luxury suite card. Swindell then goes to the room and finds the Swindle six on the balcony. They reveal they have the actual $80,000 toy and that if he doesn't give up the baseball card then the angry Russian man, who already found out the blue-haired toy, will find him. Swindell then runs and tries to get the card but the six throw the red-haired toy back and fourth between each other to keep it from him, but it falls off the balcony and into an arriving wedding cake. The six and Swindell chase after the toy and crash a Greek wedding. After all diving into the cake to get the toy, everybody starts a food fight. When Swindell gets the toy and he runs out, only to get caught by the Russian man, which Swindell then reacts by giving the six the card, and he runs away frightened. He then is stopped by security of the hotel, not only finding out the bill for everything, but the $80,000 the Russian man payed him were fake, and the Russian man reveals to be an actor and Savannah's dad.
At the end of the film a little girl comes up to Griffin and explains she got conned, and asked if she can get help. Looking at the other five, he agrees, and the film ends by showing the six walking, but Ben trips and spills his drink and the screen freezes and then the end credits begin. That could lead to a Sequel based on the next book in the series.
