Jung Jae-In (Yoo Ho-Jeong) and her husband separated after her husband's business went bankrupt. Jae-In, having no other options, moves back to her hometown in the countryside with her two daughters and lives with her father. Before Jae-In married she was disowned by her father ....
Jae-In's husband (Kim Ho-Jin) goes bankrupt and is imprisoned. Jae-In takes her two daughters to her father Boo-Sik's (Choi Bul-Am) home, deep in mountains of Gangwon-do. Jae-In and her father have had a strained relationship. Before Jae-In married, her father strongly opposed the marriage, because her husband Tae-Sub had been married before and has a daughter from his previous marriage. Jae-In now asks her father to take care of her kids temporarily. Jae-In's daughters, Eun-Soo (Kim Sae-Ron) and Hyun-Soo (Ahn Seo-Hyun) try to give a good impression to their grandfather.
Meanwhile, Jae-In goes back to Seoul. Jae-In visits her husband in prison. Her husband Tae-Sub states that he can't do anything for her and asks for a divorce, but Jae-In ignores him. Jae-In attempts to gather enough money to bail him out of jail. She even sells her wedding ring. On the day Tae-Sub gets out jail, Jae-In arrives in a taxi cab. When Jae-In is about to call Tae-Sub she sees a woman approaching him. They get in a car together and leave. Jae-In is shocked. Later, Jae-In receives a phone call from Tae-Sub. Her husband tells her that he is in a friend's office. Jae-In shouts at him that she saw him leave with a woman from the prison. Tae-Sub tells her the woman is just a friend and she has helped him out a lot. Jae-In yells that she can't believe anything he says.
The grandfather, Boo-Sik, doesn't get along with his two granddaughters. Even though Eun-Soo tries to get close to her granddad, Boo-Sik is mean to her. The grandfather blames Eun-Soo for everything, even the things that Hyun-Soo does wrong. One day, Eun-Soo and Hyun-Soo try to help their grandfather cut a tree. Hyun-Soo cuts something she isn't supposed to cut and her grandfather blames Eun-Soo. This time, Eun-Soo tells her grandfather that no matter how hard she tries her grandfather will dislike her, because she isn't his real granddaughter. Then Eun-Soo walks away, while Hyun-Soo follows. A little while later, Hyun-Soo drops her crayon box and the crayons spills out. One crayon rolls to towards the edge of the mountain path. When Hyun-Soo tries to pick up the crayon she falls off the edge. Eun-Soo hears Hyun-Soo screams and goes down to help her. Eun-Soo tells her to stay still until she comes back. She gets her grandfather and they go back to where Hyun-Soo is supposed to be, but Hyun-Soo isn't there. It's now raining. The grandfather tells Eun-Soo to go back to the house while he looks for Hyun-Soo.
Hyun-Soo wakes up and finds herself lying on a soda. A man approaches her and gives her tea, but Hyun-Soo refuses the tea because of what her mother taught her about accepting things from strangers. A boy then shows up and says it's okay to drink the tea and the tea helps to prevent colds. Hyun-Soo becomes relieved and drinks the tea.
Jae-In feels desperate. She lies in the small one room apartment where she moved into after her husband went bankrupt. She hears the sound from her cellphone that text messages has arrived. Jae-In checks her messages and listens to her voicemail. She hears Eun-Soo's crying voice. Jae-In immediately goes back to her grandfather's home. When she arrives, Eun-Soo is home alone. Eun-Soo blurts out that it is all her fault and tells her mother what happened. Jae-In and her father go out to find Hyun-Soo, but they can't find her.
When they get back, a car pulls up in front of the house. Hyun-Soo gets out and Jae-In is overcome with emotion. The grandfather thanks the man and boy for returning Hyun-Soo. When they get inside, Hyun-Soo gets a fever and Jae-In takes care of her. When Jae-In goes out to wash a towel she has an argument with her dad. Eun-Soo overhears the argument. Eun-Soo packs up her things and walks out. Her mother follows her and catches her. Eun-Soo tells Jae-In that she wants to go live with her birth mother and that she doesn't think she belongs here. Eun-Soo also asks Jae-In if she loves her the same amount as Hyun-Soo. Jae-In tells her that she does love her as much as Hyun-Soo and starts to cry. They both go back into the home. The next morning, Eun-Soo leaves a note behind and walks out of the house to go see her birth mother in Seoul ...
