On 16 December 2011, Digital Spy revealed that the show was renewed for a fourth series. A few days later, it was revealed that series stars Antonia Thomas and Iwan Rheon would not be returning in the fourth series.
On 2 May 2012, Lauren Socha was sentenced to a four month jail term after she admitted to racially aggravated assault against a taxi driver in 2011.The following day, Channel 4 announced that Lauren would not be returning to Misfits, but this was by mutual decision before the series went into production and had nothing to do with her conviction.
On 16 May 2012, ScreenTerrier announced that 23 year-old Actress Karla Crome had joined as Jess and that Nathan McMullen joined the cast as Finn. On 13 July 2012, ScreenTerrier announced that Matt Stokoe will join the cast as Alex. Later that same week, it was revealed that Matthew McNulty will be reprising his role as Seth for series 4. On 10 October Andrew Gower's website confirmed he would appear as a character called Jake in the fourth episode of the series.
On 8 October 2012, four promos advertising the new series began to air on E4, featuring Jess, Finn, Curtis and Rudy. On 15 October 2012, a forty second-long trailer was released.
The series premiered on 28 October 2012.
